Dominican Republic Ministry of Defense Partners with Ericom to Secure Networks and Data from Browser-borne Threats

Remote Browser Isolation Provides Zero Trust Protection, Enabling Risk-Free Investigation of Threats Involving Dark Web Sites

New York, N.Y., (March 19, 2019) – Ericom Software, a global leader in securing and connecting the unified digital workspace, announced today that the Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic is partnering with Ericom to protect its endpoints and networks from browser-borne attacks.

“As Minister of Defense of the Dominican Republic, I’m proud to be spearheading introduction of cutting-edge cybersecurity technologies,” said Lieutenant General Ruben Dario Paulino. “With armed forces comprising over 44,000 individuals, and responsibility for government-owned enterprises and sites as well as military facilities, the Ministry has increasingly been integrating internet use to enhance operational efficiency and optimize use of critical defense technologies. Employees, subcontractors and military personnel regularly log on to a wide range of web sites to do research, manage logistics, and leverage SaaS applications.”

“The Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic was seeking a solution that could protect its systems from web-borne attacks,” said Commander Osvaldo Vincio Valdez Salado, Head of IT for the Ministry of Defense. “Integrating Ericom Shield remote browser isolation solution with our existing security infrastructure protects Ministry systems from ransomware, phishing attacks, zero-day exploits and the full range of unknown threats, while enabling our personnel to conduct essential online tasks on any websites they need, without disruption or delay. Ericom Shield is particularly valuable in that it enables officers to investigate activity involving dark web sites, without fear of drive-by downloads or other attacks.”

When a Ministry employee enters a URL in his or her device browser, Ericom Shield executes the website content in a virtual browser located in a disposable, isolated virtual container that resides either in the DMZ or on the cloud. A secure media stream, sent from the remote browser to the endpoint, provides a natural interactive browsing experience. Since web content is never in contact with the endpoint or local network, Ministry of Defense systems and data are safeguarded from advanced threats and attacks. When the user closes a browser tab or stops browsing, the container and virtual browser are discarded along with any malicious code picked up from the site.

“Ericom is proud to support the Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic in their efforts to keep the country’s citizens and visitors safe and secure,” said David Canellos, CEO of Ericom. “While the internet is an essential research and operational resource for defense forces worldwide, is also the dominant vector for cyberattacks. As a zero trust browsing solution, Ericom Shield provides essential protection for government ministries from human factor errors and insider attacks, as well from zero-day vulnerabilities, phishing, ransomware attacks, and harmful downloads.”
